I never planned on becoming a politician. I planned to build a career, contribute to my community, and live my life. But over the years, I watched too many decisions get made by people who seemed more interested in politics than in whether those decisions actually made life better for the people they represent.
Then my life changed forever.
In August 2024, I was shot in the face and nearly killed. I survived an act of violence that could have ended my life in seconds. What followed were surgeries, medical bills, lost time, and months of rebuilding physically, mentally, and financially. It gave me a perspective on our government and justice system that I never expected to have.
I learned what it feels like to depend on the systems our elected officials create. I learned how quickly one terrible event can affect someone’s health, finances, career, family, and future. And I learned that policies discussed as abstract political arguments have very real consequences for ordinary people.
But my reason for running is bigger than what happened to me.
