Tell lawmakers to vote NO on SB 905, SB 1421, and SB 1055.
Missouri already has one of the highest gun death rates in America, yet lawmakers continue pushing legislation that would weaken public safety protections and expand where firearms can be carried throughout our communities. That should concern every Missourian regardless of political party.
Several bills proposed this legislative session would:
- lower the age to obtain concealed carry permits,
- allow firearms on public transit,
- expand guns in schools,
- block enforcement of certain gun safety laws,
- and further expand Missouri’s “Shoot First” laws.
Supporters argue these bills protect constitutional rights and expand personal freedom. I support the Second Amendment. I also believe rights come with responsibility and accountability.
The real question should not be:
“Does this sound politically popular?”
The real question should be:
“Does this actually make people safer?”
I care about results.
Did the law reduce violence? No.
Did it protect families? No.
Did it improve public safety? No.
Did it help prevent unnecessary deaths? No.
Missouri is already struggling with gun violence, domestic violence fatalities, suicides involving firearms, and increasing concerns about public safety in schools and communities. Expanding access to firearms in more public places without addressing root causes does not automatically create safer communities. In fact, many law enforcement professionals, medical experts, and public safety advocates continue warning that escalating access without adequate safeguards increases risk, accidents, impulsive violence, and deadly confrontations.
This conversation should not be reduced to slogans.
We can support responsible gun ownership while also supporting:
- stronger mental health resources,
- violence prevention efforts,
- secure firearm storage,
- community intervention programs,
- and evidence-based public safety policies.
Those ideas are not anti-freedom. They are pro-responsibility.
